Can't respec companions from level 1

It's only doing respec from recruit level like the game normally does. I verified the respec from recuit level option is off in Unity Mods.

Even though it shows a higher level than 1, it does allow me to change some character creation settings but that was buggy too (e.g. for Daeran it let me change race sub-type - but not race - but several were types not available (including his normal sub-type).

Stat allocation points are always 0, but I had it set to 25 and tried with and without the original stats option selected.

Running on a new game, can ajust ability scores but they're stuck in the vanilla "respec from their recruit level" rule
