From Companion VM:

why are you using network socket for the usb btw? it looks like you're on macos and the default will work

remove conn-type conn-addr and conn-port (from both) and see if that helps

I removed the args and that doesn't change anything. The same error appears from both ends

Maybe try Arch for the companion. Also, are you sure that you're running the patched idevicerestore?
