why is “click above to load data file” floating in a sea of white?

I am compiling on ubuntu 22.04, on very old laptop. Things work well, The oscilloscope + LSL all works beautifully. But the dataparser doesn't open anything and seems unresponsive other than it starting up. Do I need a specific library or dependency to be able to open up files?

@jnvandermeer Can you add a screenshot of what you see when the application is launched?
To answer your questions, there are no special dependencies. And, if you did not have the required dependencies in addons, the build would fail.

Additionally, "doesn't open anything and seems unresponsive other than it starting up" : Does this mean you do see GUI elements on the screen, you just are not able to interact with them?
