maximum call stack exceeded

Your function to re-render when data changes causes a maximum call stack exceeded exception.

what version of angular are you using? this was written for the 1.2 branch a while ago, i think it needs a refresh to newer versions which might solve this issue

giving the watcher a function will call the function in every digest loop (just as it would eval the string) there is not much difference between your suggestion and

scope.$watch('data.value', function(newVals, oldVals) {
  return scope.render(newVals);
}, true);

the true at the end of the watch means deep watch so it should look on the nested values in scope.data including value. if there is a circular call that would mean render(newVals) is changing something on scope.data which then calls itself again

I haven't loaded this code in a while but it worked when I wrote it, so that makes me think this is an issue with it not being compatible with a newer version of angular, I'll take a look into it but not today as I'm swamped at work right now.
