Description

@SueValente

User Story

In order to find relevant datasets more efficiently, users want improved filtering capabilities including API availability, latest publishing date, and enhanced search features.

Acceptance Criteria

Note: This ticket needs refinement. Acceptance criteria will be updated once requirements are clarified.

  • GIVEN specific filter requirements are defined
    WHEN filters are implemented
THEN users can filter by the agreed-upon criteria

Background

Source: External beta feedback (Anonymous, no email) - 1/26/2026

Request: "Need improved filtering, especially around which data is available via API, latest publishing date, AI search support, etc."

Needs clarification:

  • "Data available via API" - Does this mean datasets that have API endpoints? Or datasets accessible through the catalog API?
  • "Latest publishing date" - Filter by date range? Sort by most recently published?
  • "AI search support" - What does this mean? Natural language search? Semantic search? Integration with AI tools?
  • "etc." - What other filters are implied?

Next steps:

  • Contact feedback submitter for clarification (no email provided - may need to surface through other channels)
  • Review analytics to understand common filtering needs
  • Assess current filtering capabilities and gaps

Security Considerations

None currently identified - will assess once requirements are clarified.

Sketch

  • Attempt to identify and contact feedback submitter for clarification
  • Review current filtering options in beta catalog
  • Review filtering options in current data.gov for comparison
  • Analyze common user filtering patterns (if analytics available)
  • Define specific filter requirements
  • Update this ticket with refined acceptance criteria
  • Create implementation plan
