Is it possible to add functionality so that new elements are added after the selected XPath node and not as child to the selected XPath node? I need an element added to a specific location within the XML file.

appSettings needs to be added between configSections and dataCacheConfig like this:

Before:

<configuration>
 <configSections>
 </configSections>
 <dataCacheConfig>
 </dataCacheConfig>
</configuration>

After:

<configuration>
 <configSections>
 </configSections>
 <appSettings>
 </appSettings>
 <dataCacheConfig>
 </dataCacheConfig>
</configuration>

Hi @jensotto you can add it with the current module, but it doesn't take care on which position. The whole module is build on SelectSingleNode and therefore will always add it after the first match. In this case it's a top level element and would be added directly under root. But the order isn't important. Isn't it?

The order is important. appSettings needs to be inserted between configSections and dataCacheConfig. The before example is predefined and I can't modify or recreate it other than adding appSettings.

Okay, got it. Thus means the Add-XMLItem function needs to be extended based on this:

This needs a bit more work...I'm on it.
