enter device name instead of naming the child device as Roku - MACAddr

I have been trying to figure out a way to give the roku connect smart app the ability to rename its child devices.  
you can rename the child devices directly in the devices themselves but then they become disassociated from the smart app and won't update ip address changes etc from the smart app to the child because it can't find it.
Any assistance would be awesome! thanks.
