hypertexnames

I'm currently writing a document where I need hypertexnames=true, because otherwise back-reference links from the bibliography don't work.

So far, most of my equations are referenced and so the links mostly work, or at least aren't too far, but as I add more unreferenced equations, this will likely become a problem.

I don't know much about latex internals, so I don't fully understand the description of the problem in the documentation, but it seems like the only options are (1) tolerate the broken links, (2) go about substantial changes to autonum to make it work, or (3) don't use autonum?

(Where (3) might include using mathtools instead and switching away from cleveref, which is also unpleasant.)

Are there any other workarounds?
