As an op I want a "silent mode" which could potentially facilitate complex workflows

A workflow in which something has to be performed towards a list of instances (virtual machines or router vms, for i.e.) currently requires a lot of output parsing. A silent mode is desirable for situations when you might need [exclusively] a list (JSON? XML? plain text?) of instances for later processing.
