Does MPD Use Dither To Truncate?

I use a player based on MPD to stream radio stations. The audio streams can be 16 or 24, bit, depending on the type of stream and the decoder used.
If I set the audio output to format ":16:", is a 24 bit sample dithered down to 16 bit, or just truncated? If I set format ":24:", is interpolation used to increase the sample length, or just added zeroes?

For 24→16, MPD dithers.

For 16→24, shifts 8 bits to the left, no arithmetic interpolation. That means MPD doesn't use the upper 0.4% of the available range.
