Has anyone experimented with HDMI CEC?

I finally bought a receiver that supports HDMI CEC. I've connected my TV to it and am happy using ARC for audio from the TV for Spotify. I've also connected a little ARM device (Rock Pi 4 Plus) with MPD. I can play music from MPD through the receiver, but it's not "nice". The receiver does not automatically turn on and I have no volume control from the source. I know I could do softvol in MPD, but the hardware I'm using supports CEC so I'm curious to explore that.

Searches for MPD and CEC don't turn up anything. Has anyone experimented with it before? Am I missing something fundamental that would stop it from working?

MPD has no CEC features, but I guess adding them wouldn't be too hard. If you want to give it a try, I'd be willing to help you.
