Filtering out incomplete albums

Hi!

Generally speaking, I have my music in one of these two forms:

• Complete albums /<Artist>/<Album>/*
• Standalone song, still following the same path pattern /<Artist>/<Album>/<Song>

However, querying "Albums" now gives the impression I have all these albums which I do not.

Is there a strategy (either supported directly, or indirectly with a workaround) to somehow query like this:

Please show me all "complete" albums
or
Please show me all albums which contains more than N files

Or how do you yourself handle this? Do you have a different file structure for these?

I must admit I don't use metadata queries; my own MPD use case is being a very dumb music player.
I see your problem, but I don't have a good solution; this is difficult because how could MPD (or any other software) know that an album is incomplete? That would involve a lot of fuzzy guessing. If you have an idea, there would certainly a way to get it into MPD.

hmm I see from the docs that the musicbrainz_albumid tag is supported, possible to fetch the track count from there perhaps?

with mpc you can download album art, album track count isn't that far off?

I dont know enough about mpd internals to know if this could be potentially a bultin/plugin or a client side thing. Are stickers supported for albums yet? Aren't those supposed to support arbritary metadata?

(ideally it would be native / builtin solution though, but i understand if it is too messy to solve).

Wait: I now see that albumart info is actually stored in the mpd database. Why then, would it not be possible to store album track count in the same vein?

Of course you can store the track count in metadata in your music files.
But do all of your music files consistently have that information? Or are you willing to fix all music files? If not, then this idea will not solve anything.
