Display=template with a property doesn't work anymore

Typically used like this:

|?Property
  #label=Property label
  #display=template
  #template=Show property in wikisearch row

As documented at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:WikiSearchFront#Search_result_settings a search result property can be displayed with a template that takes page and property value as parameters.
After upgrading - in a 'layout=table' configuration - the column appears with the label, but the cells remain empty. Even a fixed value in the template is not shown, so it seems the template is just not parsed.
