When following the install instructions at the readme

in step two when creating a virtual environment, the command produced an error message

python3 version : Python 3.23.9
bash shell / zsh
macOS 26.2

used: . .venv/bin/activate in step 2 and it worked.

for step 3: we need to add prior to installing the requirement libraries: cd ADaMpy

this is not the correct echo command to verify the MQTT credentials inserted

Thanks for the detailed install notes.

Our README Step 2 + Step 4 are currently written for Windows PowerShell, so bash/zsh on macOS will error.

Step 2 (macOS bash/zsh venv activate)

Use:

python3 -m venv .venv
source .venv/bin/activate
# or: . .venv/bin/activate

(The PowerShell command ..venv\Scripts\Activate.ps1 is Windows-only.)

Step 3 (correct directory)

Yes, you should cd ADaMpy before installing/running if you’re following the Python project structure:

cd ADaMpy
python3 -m pip install -r requirements.txt

Step 4 (verify env vars in bash/zsh)

PowerShell syntax $env:MQTT_USER won’t work in bash/zsh.
Use:

export MQTT_USER="YOUR_USERNAME"
export MQTT_PASS="YOUR_PASSWORD"
echo "$MQTT_USER"

(I’m not going to suggest echoing the password.)

I’ll update the README to include macOS bash/zsh equivalents and the cd ADaMpy note.

Also, can you paste the exact output of:
python3 --version
sw_vers

Your “Python 3.23.9 / macOS 26.2” looks off.
Note: USER_NAME = "public", PASSWORD = "public"
