I have analyzed this issue and here is my proposed implementation plan:

Analysis

The React error #31 ("Objects are not valid as a React child") is thrown in FollowUpSuggest.tsx when suggestion.answer is an object instead of a string. The component stack confirms the crash originates in FollowUpSuggest at line 23.

The root cause: when using a non-standard or proxy API, the follow-up suggestion data may arrive with answer as a non-string value (e.g., an empty object {}). Currently, the code parses the JSON with safeJsonParse<FollowUpData>() which only does type assertion without runtime validation, then directly renders suggestion.answer as a React child -- crashing if it is not a primitive.

Proposed Fix

1. Add runtime validation in ChatRow.tsx where followUpData is computed (around line 408). After safeJsonParse, validate the parsed suggest array using the existing followUpDataSchema from @roo-code/types. This ensures each suggestion.answer is a string before it reaches the component. Invalid items would be filtered out.

2. Add defensive rendering in FollowUpSuggest.tsx as a safety net. Coerce suggestion.answer to a string via String(suggestion.answer) so that even if validation is bypassed, the component never attempts to render an object.

3. Add tests for both the validation path and the defensive rendering in FollowUpSuggest.spec.tsx.

This approach will prevent the crash for any non-standard API responses while keeping backward compatibility for well-formed data.
