The web application references purl.org URLs that don't work. There are two options to fix this:

1. we migrate to purl.archive.org and update the URLs it resolves to (which are NESCent subdomains). This would have to be done by @hlapp (see here)
2. alternatively, we remove the indirection and just rewrite the URLs directly to the web app itself.

And for the record, I was indeed able to restore my ability to change (edit) the purl.archive.org records.

I feel like the original idea of purl.org being more persistent than treebase.org, as a domain, has not held up. I prefer to just cut out the middle man and remove the indirection entirely, i.e. option 2.
