Sharing axis and labels for only a subset of subplot

In a figure with many subplot, how do I share the axis and labels only among particular subplot without turning share and span globally for the figure?

That's not possible. You would have to do this manually.

I'm looking for adding a feature where we could span axis labels but this would require more tooling than I currently have time for. Naturally I welcome anyone who could implement this feature.

This functions would nee to change:

• self._update_share_labels

It currently reads from the current axis, but we somehow need to apply this to gridspec.

hmm actually we do support this, we have a parameter called share_xlabels but it is currently bugged; will try to to fix this.
