Battery drain on Rog Ally Z1E when device is switched off.

Describe what you expected should happen and what did happen.

When device is completely switched off it shouldn't drain as much battery as it does. I switched off fast boot and activated ERP option in bios, but this didn't help. I used Bazzite for couple of months and this issue wasn't present. I could turn the device off and back on after 20 hours and battery level was the same.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

1. Turn off the device (note the battery level)
2. Turn the device back on and realise about 8% up to 10% of battery is gone over the night.
3. Cry.

Hello @b2sql, this reads like a nominal amount if the device is sleeping instead of a full shutdown.

It does indeed. And I definitely shut it down. Looks like something doesn't let it fully shut down. As I mentioned, I used Bazzite and shut down the device the same way (power -> shut down) and it never happened there.

Hi @b2sql, I asked around and was reminded of an issue where the fingerprint reader can cause battery drain while shut down on the original ROG Ally.

I can give you some steps to try a potential workaround if you're comfortable running a command in the terminal on desktop mode

1. set a sudo password via passwd if you haven't already, i.e run passwd in konsole
2. paste and run the following command:

sudo tee /etc/udev/rules.d/50-fingerprint-reader.rules >/dev/null <<'EOF'
ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", TEST=="power/control", ATTR{idVendor}=="1c7a", ATTR{idProduct}=="0588", ATTR{power/control}="auto"
EOF

this will only take effect after a reboot, then on the next shutdown after that it should start working. this won't survive SteamOS updates by default, but if it works for you we can assess next steps

I did a bit of research before posting this issue and I remember coming across the command related to the fingerprint sensor.

The command I came across prior opening the issue was:

I tried it and it didn't work. I'll apply one you gave me and get back to you tomorrow.

I can confirm the bug is also fixed using that command in the ROG Ally X model. I hope when the fix is applied officially that it comes to this model as well. Extremely happy to not have to charge the device everyday after many months of suffering the bug myself.
