Bloodlines might warrant an investigation as the updated version dates way back to April 2021, but the situation with the Nightmare mod seems to be different.

The very description of the mod's page explicitly states that it uses NBlood's modern features and is thus a NBlood/NotBlood exclusive.

Raze incorporates a notable chunk of NoOne's extensions as well, but eventually paths diverged and future additions to the extensions could no longer be easily backported. I have seen on some mod pages criticism regarding this, that Raze supposedly "dropped the extensions on a whim", thus losing compatibility with various new mods, so I figured it might be fitting to provide an explanation about what happened.

The reality is that, actually, not much at all happened, and there's no story from behind the scenes to tell here. The main issue is that the way the extensions got implemented in NBlood past a certain point (I can't remember exactly when it occurred, but I think the breaking point was sometime in 2022) made them too difficult to backport and maintain, as the code could no longer be easily integrated due to Raze undergoing constant refactoring jobs and the extensions would have required extensive rework to achieve the goal of reintegrating future additions, which eventually became too much of a burden.

Even back when they were still being actively supported, various parts had to be reworked at different times for proper integration into Raze as the code could not just be taken straight from NBlood, but a breaking point was eventually reached once it became too much. The team is very small, and for a good while now development has even paused due to lack of time to commit to the project and other things taking priority in its place.

I figured I'd address this critique that had arisen in some parts of the internet for this occassion. Support for the latest modern features from NBlood wasn't dropped "on purpose", especially with Blood going through a renaissance now, but simply because backporting the changes became too difficult, as the features practically had to be rewritten just to fit into the current code base.

As it stands, Blood mods released up until ~2022 that also employ NoOne's extensions should all work correctly. If a mod released until that point in time works in NBlood/NotBlood but not in Raze, then it is most likely a bug worth reporting. It is only the mods released after that point (and if they do make extensive use of the latest extensions in the first place) that won't work because these additions were never reintegrated, especially if the creators have tested their work against multiple source ports and can confirm specific features are missing.

Thank you very much for thorough response! And yeah honestly it’s a valid choice. Just like Zandronum doesn’t run all GZDoom mods. Please do let me know about Bloodlines though! Is there a place I can look for some logs btw?Also I’d really love if we could open up ini files via the user map selector like in Blood Fresh Supply.

Raze is no longer recommend for Blood in general. Use NBlood or NotBlood exclusively.

I was a long time Raze user for Blood, until i replayed all mods in NotBlood and all the quirks disappeared. Raze is simply too outdated for Blood mods now.
