Research methods of removing Huron placeholders from DOM flow

Currently there are some instances in which selectors such as :last-child or :first-child will fail b/c they target a hidden huron placeholder. Assignee of this issue should research ways of replacing or removing huron placeholders from the document flow to prevent this from happening.

One idea is to replace them with an HTML comment node, thought if we did that I'm unsure of how easy it would be to access the data attributes for future replacements.
