Is it possible to have a placeholder so the first docked item does not fill the entire frame?

For example, In many IDEs I have a left-hand tree view of my files on disk and a bottom panel for status. The majority of the center and top right remain empty until I open a document.

Not yet, but I do plan on supporting this. It's a matter of finding the right approach for the API.
