Is there any option to set TERM environment variable?

Is there any option to set TERM environment variable? What should be best value to set if I want 256 color enabled? 'vte-256color' or 'xterm-256color' or any other values?

VTE do support 256 colors.
Usually you can just use "xterm".
I think "export TERM=xterm-color" in your shell should do the trick for applications.
For example.
~$ export TERM=xterm-color
~$ application &

It would be nice to have an option in config. The reason would be because if VTE does support 256 colours, we should advertise it properly...

$TERM is not a build-time configuration.
But yes advertise it is a nice idea.

Having the option to set 256 colors (e.g. "xterm-256color") at compile time or via a command line option would be useful addition to evilvte.
