"Steam must be running to play DustForce" error

Trying to run Linux Steam build on HoloISO (SteamDeck OS).

Plain DustForce runs fine, but dustmod gives the error "Steam must be running to play DustForce".

Tried fixing permissions and reinstalling, same error :-(

Any ideas???
