pip-installable package

Dear developers,

I've tried to install the package, but noticed a few things which can be improved:

• The requirements.txt file contains a few dependencies, which cannot be found at PyPI, i.e. the installation using pip install -r requirements.txt fails. The packages in question are: spefile, edffile and dxfile. Are there any plans to add those packages to the PyPI resource, if they are under your control? All the names are available at PyPI.
• Automatic installation of the dependencies would help a lot, once the first point is resolved. An example can be found here (lines 7-8 and 21).
• Eventually, it would be nice to have a dxchange package at PyPI. The name is available.

The changes above would benefit the installation of tomopy dependencies. Thank you!

Hi @mrakitin,

A few years ago, we switched to conda as our only supported package and environment manager. DXchange and TomoPy are available on the conda-forge channel. I'm not sure the specific reasons for the switch, but I haven't heard any complaints about conda. It certainly makes development and supporting users easier because of the environment management features.

conda is the recommended way to install both DXchange and TomoPy. I don't think there are any plans to return to PyPI.

@mratkin As of TomoPy 1.5, dxchange is no longer a dependency. It was removed as a dependency because it was only needed for some diagnostics and the find center routines.
