Pop'n 18 not booting past security.

The instructions on the popnhook1 is somewhat low in detail, so I'm having a hard time following the instructions. I have all of the prerecs that you showed

I have a copy of pop'n18 that boots fine

But I get this error when trying to boot up the game (I run the .bat as admin)

But oddly enough, I still get this error despite using the older version that's reported to be working (43). Not sure if I missed a step or not, using a clean version.

Update: I took a closer look and saw that the error is actually different from what was posted before. I get that error when I use the older version, as said above. I tried the latest version, .48, I get a different error message, similar to the the #259 error

The game REALLY wants you to connect it online, I let popn18.exe through the firewall, and it finally passed all the checks (you can't add .bats to a firewall, it should probably be removed from the readme.

I'm using .43 still, and it boots just fine.

It might be that the default settings of the games force eamuse to be on which results in the game trying to connect on boot. This probably causes the issues when the firewall is blocking. Have you checked the operator menu if the the eamuse setting under network options is enabled?

.bat files are just scripts that run a sequence of commands and not an actual executable. The firewall can only operate on executables, so you are correct about having to add popn18.exe to it to have it unblocked.

What's the specific section in the readme you are referring to here?

Give access to gamestart.bat and launcher.exe from Windows Firewall if enabled.
Make sure no antivirus software firewall is blocking access to those files.

This page was kinda hard to find, it should probably be linked on the main readme, or the game pages readme.

Its a small detail to bring up, but it could be updated for the popn games supported.

I haven't checked the cabinet settings much, outside of free play. Didn't think there was an emuse setting, but there was a network setting.

I can try to take a look at the popn read me to edit it a bit.

Update: Checked the setting.

Under the network tab, there's a section e amusement, turning it off skips the error message about not having a proper connection, thus booting into the game faster.

Turning off the firewall allows it to boot into the game normally, thus it can be removed without issue.

However, you can't enter the service menu UNTIL it goes past all the checks (this includes the checking for networking)

Maybe when the error message pops up, you can enter the service menu, never tried.

But the fix is to go through the firewall, use an older version of popnhook1, and after changing the settings, you can remove the firewall.
