[feature] Add ability to select a model when MC is first loaded

Discussed offline but we have a common pattern in our app is to add a feature the the view controller to select a certain model when the model collection first loads (if no other selection exists), would be nice to add support for that in pilot.

Support should including waiting for a certain model to load too, In case it's not part of the initial load.
