Caddy is using Let's Encrypt, a free CA. There's a promising ruby gem for it https://github.com/unixcharles/acme-client, that might be leveraged to get the appropriate certs before the Sinatra app spins up. If I have free time on the beach tomorrow I'll look into this, but wanted to leave my research in case I don't get to it.
