Does shermes run before it runs?

I changed argc and argv arguments of the main function in shermes library to try to step through it and see how it works, and it seems that if I change the arguments that it fails to even trigger a breakpoint at the first line because something fails beforehand. It seems that shermes is called before it runs? What is going on here? It seems when it runs that it calls itself? If so, what is making it do this?
