Extended fields as seperate columns

Would it be possible to alter this addon to make it save the extended fields as separate columns in the CSV/ Excel file?

Hi,

I had considered this. The difficulty with doing that for the general
addon is that there can be anything in that field - either a flat JSON
structure that simply extends the columns/attributes of the user profile
table/object OR a data structure with multiple rows and a one to many
relationship with the user that would normally be held in a separate
database table or indeed some other structure entirely. So if that data in
the extended fields column is required in discrete parts, how it is handled
really needs to be dealt with on a case by case basis, either expanding out
the columns of the sheet in the first case or perhaps adding multiple
sheets, one per user, to accommodate the rows in the second case where the
user has a one to many relationship with the data in the field.

If your JSON in that column is relatively simple, perhaps a formula in
Excel to spit it out in separate columns would suffice.

Hi Joe, thanks for your fast response! I understand the problem. In my case the extended fields are simple key/value pairs, so I think I'll add them myself to the CSV/Excel by altering getfile.class.php. (is this the only file I have to change?) . I know all the extended fields by name (they will be the same for all users) so I'm going to try this: add the headings by hand, decode the json from the extended-field and add the items from the extended fields array to the correct columns.

And I almost forgot to say: thank you for this great addon!

Yup, all is in the getfile.class.php file in
core/components/xodus/processors/mgr/xodus/ - I tried to stick to
established conventions on this. Will be just a matter of extending your
column headings and then writing a small function to parse out your JSON to
populate those columns on each iteration of the loop.

Happy the addon was useful. Trying to give back when I have a bit of code
that is relatively simple to generalise. :)
