Background of QAD

Thanks a lot @geosim for developing this wonderful plugin!

I'm working with QAD during my masters thesis. I evaluate if QGIS with QAD can substitute comercial CAD usage in utility management. Therefore I'm interested in learning more about the background of QAD. May I ask you some questions about that? I'm especially interested in which business context the plugin was developed, the current legal situation (similarity to AutoCAD), current usage of the plugin in industry etc.

Hi benni, I don't know the business context the plugin was developed in. I think QAD is too similar to AutoCAD and this can result in legal problems (commands, options, icons...). Look at #11. I have not enough money to ask a legal report on it... I have no idea on the current usage about QAD because I can only know the number of downloads (https://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/?page=27&sort=downloads&) which doesn't represent the real users number. I think the number of real users is about 3500 actually. Sorry for having no useful informations ... bye gam17

Hi gam17, thanks for your informations, thats a lot better than nothing! I recognized #11, question is if something happened in between (@geosim wrote about clearing of legal situation is in progress). I have two more month to finish my work, maybe @geosim or someone else can help me with some further informations.
