Maintainer

  • Would you like to be the maintainer for this package?

Why should this be included in the repository?

This is one of the best-maintained and oft-updated Linux applications for owners of Elgato Stream Deck units and some other macro pad/SD-like pads. It currently only comes packaged in Arch AUR, .deb and .rpm formats for Linux distros, as well as AppImage (not recommended per the dev themselves) and Flatpak, but having it installable via the official Solus repo would be many users' preference.

Are we allowed to redistribute it?

Yes, via GPL-3.0 - https://github.com/nekename/OpenDeck?tab=GPL-3.0-1-ov-file

What kind of user will use this package, and how many users do you think will use this package?

Mostly gamers and power-users.

Macro pads like the Elgato Stream Deck and other third-party variations offer user- and community-created plugins for launching software, applications, custom scripts, etc. through the use of trigger actions that one can assign to buttons on said macro pad.

Such uses could be, but aren't limited to...

  • Launching applications with a simple click of the assigned trigger/macro
  • Creating a macro for use within a specific app, such as render settings within a video editing software or something similar
  • Easily calling in Stratagems in the video game Helldivers 2, where a sometimes-tedious series of button presses can be set to a macro and set as a trigger to simply press, allowing you to avoid the worry of a potential to misclick while evading in-game enemies (this is not cheating software - it is a cooperative PvE game)
  • Physically handicapped and disabled users may be able to take advantage of these features, offering aforementioned quick access to the potential for things like launching software or muting microphones, etc.
