[Bug]: The address/url/search bar is not focused anymore at startup

• I have tried reproducing this issue in Chrome and it could not be reproduced there
• I have tried reproducing this issue in ungoogled-chromium and it could not be reproduced there
• I have tried reproducing this issue in Helium with a new and empty profile using --user-data-dir command line argument and it could not be reproduced there

Description

When starting Helium, the address bar has no focus. To type something, one has to click it.

How to Reproduce?

1. Start Helium
2. See the address bar without a cursor

Actual behavior

No cursor in the address bar at startup – this is quite annoying, as one has to click the address bar before being able to type something

Expected behavior

The address bar should be focused at startup, which also was the case at least up to v0.7.7.2

can't replicate on macOS, are you sure it's not caused by your DE?

I'm using KDE Plasma on Linux. On another machine (also Plasma), I still have version 0.7.7.2, and the address bar is focused on startup. This was also the case here, until the last update. No change to the DE since.

Do you have any flags enabled? The address bar is focused for me when launching the browser on Linux @ 0.8.3.1, XFCE

No, no flags set, nothing changed. I just tried it again with a downgraded version and starting with ~/.config/net.imput.helium removed, after having applied the default settings.

Version 0.8.3.1 → Address bar not focused when starting

This also can't depend on something that may have changed in the ebuild (I'm on Gentoo) – I simply copied the 0.8.3.1 to another name so that it references the 0.7.7.2 sources.

So, maybe, this depends on Plasma being used if it doesn't happen on XFCE – but 0.7.7.2 is not affected by this, whereas 0.8.3.1 is.

Edit: I can also reproduce this reliably using the AppImages of the respective versions linked on helium.computer. So it's definitely nothing changed by the Gentoo maintainers.

I was able to reproduce this specifically on Plasma, and narrow it down to 0.7.10.1 (last known good) and 0.8.1.1 (first known bad). Which is not very helpful, because that is where we updated from M143 to M144 - so either we broke something in our patches, or it's a change in Chromium.

@l3u Does this also happen for you in vanilla Chromium 144, and is working as expected in Chromium 143? If so, that would be very helpful to narrow down the change that caused this.

I tried with the Chromium AppImages from https://github.com/ivan-hc/.
