Discard `itemjoin` after math environment

Is it possible to automatically discard itemjoin for items following a math environment in an inline list in unboxed mode?

For the time being, I am using the following workaround:

\setlist[itemize*]{

Of course, the “workaround” I suggested has a drawback: it suppresses a space that is sometimes desired.

This is illustrated by this example (with the same code as above).

and some text;
\item item without space (yet desired) before label;\\
\item item without spurious space.
