Getting riotControl into other tags

Hi there I built a quick riot app. In app.js you can see my simple riot control definition. When I add var, I cannot access it inside other tags/ components. I have to drop the var to get it to work. Any ideas? https://github.com/basiclaser/riot-redux-homepage
