Would you please consider licensing this project to an Open Software Initiative or Free Software Foundation approved license that fits the motivations of this project?

Personally, I think a CC0 License fits this project well but this is very much a decision for the original authors.

Why?

I did not know the CC0 license and as you say I think it does fit this project quite well.

I am therefore waving copyright and related rights via CC0 for this work now.
I will add a notice in the README file.

Thanks for the quick response @jobar8! With the notice in the README, would you please also include a LICENSE file in the repository with the CC0 license (or whichever you choose)?

FYI: CC-BY4.0 is another good option if you'd like attribution for your work

Nice job! I like the use of equalisation.
I will add the LICENSE file too.

By the way, you might want to check out interpies here as it includes the graphics module in a better written form. The equalize_colormap function there works slightly differently though.
