Right now the DTS supports both AWS S3 and Globus as transfer providers, but a provider of one type can't interoperate with one of the other type. This inconvenience can be circumvented (clumsily) by having the DTS transfer files to its own (KBase-supplied) depot from one source and then transferred to a destination from that depot, but this solution seems heavy-handed and cumbersome.
Prowling around, I found a proof-of-concept Python script that exposes a Globus collection as an S3 bucket. Maybe we could develop something like this as an internal mechanism for the DTS that could be used for Globus <-> S3 transfers.
