Python exceptions do not halt program

I frequently, perhaps always, see that Python errors in FFI code do not interrupt the process. I don't know if this is intentional, but I would prefer it if it did. Thoughts?

That makes sense. This behaviour is due to basing the Python backend on the C backend. Any stack traces are lost whenever we go to C land. This is the default behaviour of the Python ctypes library, and I haven't figured out how to work around it.
