Do we need metadata after all?

There have already been requests for adding:

• Time of day
• Long term trends (with decay over time), with the ability to diff recent conditions against long-term
• Dominant direction of movement
• Mode of transportation

Is there any reasonable way to address these without adding the complexity of complete metadata generality?
