Cannot connect on macbook

Opened up server and serving at port 6006 but when trying to register channel, it fails with fatal error as shown in image.

Tried changing ports and other ip addresses to no avail.

Server says adding a new channel [my_channel] but connection isn't actually made?

Same here. Tried starting the server on my computer and on a server. The server also reported creating the channel, but in Brackets I got the same error.
Running OS X 10.9.4.

I'd like to help, how do I start debugging this? Can I find a more verbose error message somewhere?

It appears that the error is caused by the difference in versions of socket io. When you use NodeJS to install the server, it installs the latest version of socket io which is an entire difference release 1.x... verses the client which is still using 0.9.x. There were some changes in the api which are causing this problem.

There is no version specified in the package.json.

I think it's common to specify that you want the latest version within a major "breaking-change" version, using a caret range. This is added by default when you use npm install [some package] --save.

Hi. I've not been active on this project for a long time. I wrote it when I first got started with JavaScript and node.

So now, only GOD know what I was writing.

I've decided to develop a brand new version and will publish it soon, maybe some day in April 2015. Stay tuned!
