Opening files via Ctrl-o only works if there are no spaces in path (Linux Mint)

I'm having trouble with the file switcher via Ctrl-o. Micro finds the local files just fine and can cycle through them with the tab key, but opening does not work if there are spaces in the path. This results in an empty buffer.

Advice on how to solve this? Not sure if I'm not missing something.

Micro splits the arguments to commands on whitespace so eg. open a b is interpreted as open("a") (open only cares about the first argument). The fix is to either put quotes around the argument or escape the space with a backslash:
open "a b" and open a\ b would both work.

We should probably make the filename completion automatically insert the required escape characters.

The issue, for me, is that since the tab key successfully finds the files even with spaces, it seems counterintuitive that micro can then not open the files unless you escape the spaces. I know escaping is common practice in this case, but it would be easier if micro did that automatically.

In the meantime is there a way to get around this problem somehow? Adding something in the settings that would automatically add quotation marks to the path?
