remember status of header - collapsed or expanded -- feature request

The header uses up too much screen real estate. Recent display generations (unfortunately) have much less vertical screen dimension that horizontal. If I collapsed the header once, please remember this status (e. g. in a cookie) and/or session ID. If you need to have space for branding, please use the left or right hand side.
