In Claim 169 QR identity payload, a “household ID” was previously discussed as a potential new attribute. However, household is only one use-case. A generic “Group ID” would support broader issuer-defined groupings (e.g., farm ID, family ID, refugee case group, cooperative group) while keeping the spec interoperable and flexible.
Proposal
Add the following optional attributes under the demographic unassigned range (24..49):
-
# 24 Group ID (tstr)
Identifier for a group the subject belongs to. Semantics are defined by the issuer (household/family/farm/etc.).
-
# 25 Group Type (tstr) (optional but recommended)
Issuer-defined label describing the type/meaning of Group ID (e.g., household, farm, family, refugee_case, etc.).
Rationale
- Enables multiple issuer-defined grouping models without enforcing a single semantic (household)
- Supports offline verification and benefit/service workflows
- Minimal QR payload overhead (two short strings)
