No Dates on Post URLs Linked from Tag Pages

I don't know if this is the desired behavior, but for me, it is strange.

When using archives and post URLs have dates, like 'site.com/articles/2011/04/12/the-post', the URLs linked from the tag page don't have the date (becoming like 'site.com/articles/the-post').

This is also happening on Wolf CMS's main site. For example the 0.7.5 release announcement ('wolfcms.org/blog/2011/04/12/releasing-wolf-cms-0-7-5.html') is being linked from the tag pages as 'wolfcms.org/blog/releasing-wolf-cms-0-7-5.html'.

The date is generated by the Archive plugin which would need to be woven into Tagger's pagesByTag() function somehow.

There is some discussion about the two forms of the URL, and how to handle them, in this forum post.

I also created a gist which gives alternative code for the "Tag" page which produces the links to the frontend. Note that it assumes that your "blog" (archive behaviour) pages are at level 2 (e.g., example.com/blog/...).

Not a solution for the issue, then, but two possible ways of working around it.

If I remember right, Tagger was never originally designed to put the date into the URL. Wolf created links didn't require the date to function and therefore it just wasn't used. It was more so for simplicity in designing the link. That being said, if users would like the date to be available depending on archive settings, I don't see why it couldn't be worked in.

My guess is that aiyumi's "issue" represents an enhancement request, not a bug report.

I think for now we will add it as a enhancement request but it probably won't be implemented until version 1.4.5 or later. For now the temporary solution that David recommended can be used.

Articles/posts always have a permalink (.../blog/article-title) and then depending on the settings, preferences or where the article is being displayed (archive, categories or tags), the url may change. So in this particular case, I believe the tag should reference the permalink, not the link with the date. The same would be expected from a categories plugin.

If this is the desired behavior, then it is not a bug. But I thought it was strange because I expected all URLs to be consistent throughout the site.

I didn't want to have more than one URL pointing to the same page, so I decided to disable the archive plugin's date URLs. This was before the workarounds were posted here, but thanks for posting them anyway.
