I've tested PCPanel with multiple Linux distros, desktop environments and both X11 and Wayland.
I'm currently on Bazzite OS and as always found a way to get the software working, but always the exact same issues arise:
-Focus volume has never worked on any setup other than Windows.
-I can assign my web browser volume to one slider, lower the volume while a video is playing, but as soon as the video is done and another starts playing, the volume gets bumped back up to 100%.

I'm so sorry if the linux requests are getting overwhelming, and I appreciate all the effort that went into this. I'd love to keep using this as I try to switch my OS.

I don't actually use Linux myself, so all Linux requests usually require me installing a distro in a vm, install the entire dev-environment on it and then I can start debugging the issue. I fully understand why the PCPanel Team decided not to support it at all :)

I think the focus volume used to work on X11, but that was around the time that Wayland became the dominant desktop environment and from what I can remember, Wayland never implemented an API to allow retrieving the focused application.

I might look into it some more at some point, but for now I'll just leave the issue open for whenever someone else wants to contribute, or when I have enough time to look into it.

I really appreciate the response at the very least. I've switched over to Kubuntu for an X11 environment, and I've managed to get Focus volume working. Currently looking into the web browser volume resetting.

If it helps any, I'm not an experienced linux user myself, but I am using AI to help me debug and read logs or outputs I don't understand. This way I did get focus volume working, but I can't get firefox (or rather waterfox)'s volume to stay consistent. Using AI as a tool really helps as it can tell me where most of the systems are and how to debug them.

Amusingly, on wayland, focus volume does work if you have xdotool installed and the app in question runs in XWayland.

Sorry for reviving an 2 month old discussion with somewhat unrelated questions to the topic at hand, but I noticed that @sonic007m had managed to install this PCPanel software on an immutable distro such as Bazzite. How did you go about installing it? did you use a ubuntu distrobox and then installed the software using the .deb file? if so how did you get the container to communicate with usb?

I am somewhat new to linux, and would really like to switch over from windows to some fedora based distro (maybe even an immutable one) and my PCPanel is the only thing that I have been struggling a bit to get working. I am aware of the focus volume problem and I am willing to forego that, or even help trying to fix it.

Thanks in advance for any help, and thank you nvdweem for making this software, as I've been using it for a long time in windows.

@AstroPhysX Sorry to say, my memory is notoriously bad. I believe I did use a Ubuntu distrobox, yes. All I can say is I've used AI to help me install and troubleshoot, and I highly advise you try the same approach. I've been on Kubuntu daily since I last posted here, so the whole installation is foggy to me, but an immutable distro was way too much hassle for what it was worth to me.

Thank you for the quick response @sonic007m , I will give it a try and use AI to figure out my way through it. I like the concept of immutable distros, although I do agree that it seems to be hassle to deal with at times.

I also have the issue where assigning a knob to control the volume of a specific application (for me its spotify) works in general but is reset whenever a new song starts, rendering it quite useless.
Has anyone been able to solve/workaround this issue?

Is it possible to implement this feature for common Window Manager?
