ValueError: PyCapsule_New called with null pointer

I am getting the following error when I call itt.domain_create("name")
ValueError: PyCapsule_New called with null pointer

VTune is installed and running. The environment variables are set. include it works. However I get the above mentioned error when I try to create a domain. Python version is 3.11.9.

The function itt.domain_created is being tested in the test suite (https://github.com/oleksandr-pavlyk/itt-python/blob/master/itt/tests/test_itt.py#L11), and the CI that runs it was green

alias python=python3
export PATH="$PATH:/opt/intel/oneapi/vtune/latest/bin64"
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/opt/intel/oneapi/vtune/latest/lib64"
export VTUNE_PROFILER_DIR="/opt/intel/oneapi/vtune/latest/"
source ~/.bashrc

Then I activated my conda environment.
Then I ran the following within the root git directory:
export ITT_INCLUDE_DIR=$VTUNE_PROFILER_DIR/include
export ITT_LIBRARY_DIR=$VTUNE_PROFILER_DIR/lib64
python setup.py install

I followed the steps you provided. I also reproduced the error you reported:

Not that after itt.pause() was executed itt.domain_create("foo") started to function properly.

The test suite works incidentally as the last step of the first step executes itt.pause().

Perhaps it makes sense, as you can create a domain only when collection has stopped.

Thanks it works now. However I realized now that there is a bigger issue. Currently vtune does not support "-knob enable-user-tasks=true". Hence when I perform the collection and reporting I cannot use this knob and I do not see the domains I created. They show up as "unknown". Could you please help me collect the domain information?
