Console configuration Question

I've been trying to work out how to make the VAXstation II simulator behave in the same way as my original VAXstation II and VAXstation3100 M76.

By default both would use the graphics console for OPA0 with OPCOM messages displayed over the top of any graphics, however I used to connect a terminal to the serial port and use a switch ('S3') to have the VAXstation use that as the console. On the VAXstation 3100 it was a push button switch on the rear panel but I can't remember what I did on the VAXstation II.

Simh seems to provide the ability to connect to the console via telnet, or a physical serial device, I'd really like to know how to I configure my emulated VAXstation to use the terminal window it is running in as the console instead of the graphics screen?

If you can dig through the details on any of the documentation for one of these systems and find how the S3 switch is visible internal to the simulator, we can easily add that detail to the respective simulator's capabilities. The operating system (presumably VMS) and the possibly the graphics code (DECwindows) must have been detecting the state of the S3 switch and thus making the terminal on the console port OPA0 rather than however it is presented via the graphics subsystem. I mention this, since finding this detail either in the system hardware documentation OR the source code of the graphics system would probably lead to how to implement it.

On the VAXstation 3100 I think you actually connected the console to a different port when S3 was enabled so I suspect it is a hardware 'thing'

I'm pretty sure that the serial ports on the VAXstation 3100 systems are simulated. I still believe that if you did something to the hardware (setting S3 for example) to cause OPA0 to be delivered out one of the serial ports, we likely still need a way to reflect that.

@markpizz What do you mean by "we"? This isn't your project; you forced SIMH to fork by taking over the original domains and closed sourcing the code.
