Just looking through the website this is what I could gather.

It's an international hacking league - where your university can gather points by competing in hackathons.

At first look it seems like it's mostly US universities, but they're apparently supposed to be in the UK as well. I've sent an email to the UK guys asking for more information on how we can be a part of this. According to their terms we need to have at least 40 contestants from minimum three universities. I've asked them if there are other London based universities which have reached out to them. If not, we'll have to reach out to them ourselves, I'm sure some of them will be excited about this :-)

Also, organisers cannot compete. So we'll have to find someone willing to organise on the day of the event if some of the officers (myself included) wants to join in on the competition. Maybe Paulo Oliva, or some other QM staff members, could help us on this considering he organised the QM programming competition.

haha, so we are about to host one of the events in April.

To attract QM students, I would suggest to run a series of events (along with a moderate advertisement campaign).

• Write a blog post describing hackathons in general, maybe giving some historical facts, introduce MLH and say couple of words (show some pictures) why this is event is super cool and everyone should attend it.
• Have a talk (hopefully we will have regular meetings this term) about this, early February.
• Have another talk on a typical tools used during a hack. As I understand, it’s mostly web related tools.

In addition, we should promote other MLH events in London, so interested people could attend one of these events before the QM event.
