+Logs can be added to the Lua scripts for basic debugging by using `logger` - a shell command interface to the syslog.

+Following is an example:

+   `local data=12345`
+   `luci.sys.exec("logger -t luci \"" .. tostring(data) .. '"')`
+    where  `data` can be any variable.

+The logging output is sent to logread.
