HDMI for RoonServer docker container

hi,
i just got the roonserver container working, after some mdns issues due to vlans (& firewall rules) in my network.
(had a loop of initializing & ready of roon core - incase any1 has the same issue).
now im trying to forward the hdmi input of my server to the roon container.
im using unraid & docker-compose. my server is directly connected to my avr via hdmi.
i figured id just have to mount something like /dev/... to the container?
however i couldnt find any answer to my question after searching for it.

Hi,

this is more of an unraid/docker question than a Roon one.

You would need to find out the device name of the hdmi device and bind it to the Roon container.

See https://docs.docker.com/engine/reference/run/#runtime-privilege-and-linux-capabilities especially the —device option.

Let me know if you got this working maybe I can add a hint to the docs.

I was able to simply map /dev/snd as a device into the Docker container and it exposed all of my server's audio devices to Roon. Just tested out HDMI audio output to my AVR and it works perfectly, including very high resolution audio (up to 192kHz sample rate) and multichannel output.

This is the snippet I added to my Docker Compose file:

devices:
      - "/dev/snd:/dev/snd"

Glad you got it working. I've already tried that before my intial post. Do you have a separate soundcard? Because i simply connected my mainboard (Gigabyte W480 Vision W) per HDMI to my AVR & mapping /dev/sdr did not work. Anyway I'm currently using a HiFiBerry as Roon Bridge which is connected via HDMI to my AVR. Works flawless except obviously my AVR doesn't display the current song

I do not have a separate sound card; I'm using the display output on my server's motherboard directly (DisplayPort converted to HDMI with a passive adapter). It's a HP mini PC running Debian, for what it's worth. Roon sees the audio devices as "HDA Intel PCH HDMI 0/1/2" (one for each of the three display outputs), and there is also a "HDA Intel PCH CX20632 Analog" device, which I assume is the front audio jack.
