pi 3 B (2016 version) or Pi 5 8GB?

I have a pretty extensive IoT and home assistant setup at home and now working on building a pool equipment controller. I've got a raspberry pi 3 B (not B+) and a couple of Pi 5 8GB sitting around waiting for a compelling project. I saw a recent post asking about using pi 3 and response is perfectly fine, but will I be missing out on anything? I've had this pi 3 sitting around for years waiting for a project but I just can't help myself from acquiring Pi 4's and 5's... poor thing has been neglected.

I’ve been using pool controller with my pi 3b since the project launched. Zero issues and very responsive!
